1-Word Stories

Today we played a drama game called "1-Word Stories". We made up stories as a class, but each person was only allowed to add one word at a time. It didn't matter what the next word was as long as the sentence structure worked. In fact, the weirder the better! Here are the wacky stories we came up with:

Once upon a time there was an elf who smelled like a pig and looked like a donkey. His hair was messy and fat. He lived in a pineapple like spongebob who died. Once his face blew up a brown lolly. Elf looked into rumplestiltkins ears and ate them.

One upon a time the mouse was walking in space. Then he floated away and dropped a fish named Big Murray. Big Murray was very psychotic and fluffy. He dropped a firey toilet on a penguin. The penguin’s name was Big Head.

Once upon a time there was a mysterious brown thing on a tooshie with a pair of shoes. Then Sam-I-Am threw Hulk into a trash can. Afterwards he flew over Russia but then he found phones, which were purple and spotty. One of the phones was sarcastic with legs and four heads. Hulk was very stinky. Sam-I-Am walked over the tooshie. He found a brand new pair of shoes that were slightly stinky.

Brrrrrr! Beach Ed!

Tuesday morning dawned upon us with very little promise of sunshine or warmth! Yet off to the beach the Yr 5's went. The morning was spent inside learning about surf life saving, beach safety and sun safety. Next we all headed outside to play beach flags and do relays on the sand. We adjusted to the cold wind and the games turned out to be really fun! After lunch everyone went in the water (for a while at least) and had a swim and a boogie board. Some complaints about the cold were heard but most people stayed in the water and had a blast. MASSIVE thanks to the parents who made the trip possible, especially to those who got into togs and wetsuits and braved the not so tropical seas! You guys are legends.

Firework Frenzy

Here is a photo that Jack took at last week's firework's display at the New Brighton Pier. Awesome!

Interactive Poetry

Today we had a fantastic interactive poetry session with Greg O'Connell. He has written heaps of poems, and some of them have been published in school journals. He also has a passion for performing poetry and he is very good at it. Greg showed us how some of his poems could be performed in a really entertaining way. And what a lot of fun it was!

Sensational Speeches

Our class speech finals were held last Tuesday, and my oh my, what a difficult job judging was! Mrs Ford came down with Room 26 to help Ms A judge. It was a very close competition and it was brilliant to see how well prepared the Yr 5's were. The class results were:

1st: Grace - Jamie Curry
2nd: Toby - The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
3rd: Maddie - Diggy Dog
4th: Jack - Orlando Bloom

Grace and Toby went through to compete in the senior speech finals on Thursday. This was another incredibly close competition with some amazing speeches from a group of talented children. Grace did an amazing job, even though she had the difficult task of being the first up. Toby also did a splendid job and he placed second in the Year 5 group! Awesome work Toby!!
